Report: Rays emerging as possibility for Rasmus

Colby Rasmus' future is starting to take shape.

Though Rasmus' market has been silent this offseason, the Tampa Bay Rays have emerged as a potential landing spot for the free-agent center fielder, FanRag Sports' Jon Heyman reports.

Heyman notes Rasmus could slot in at left field and designated hitter for the Rays while also providing backup for Kevin Kiermaier in center.

The 30-year-old struggled with injuries in 2016 with the Houston Astros, slashing .206/.286/.355 in 107 games before having his season cut short in September. He reportedly underwent a pair of surgeries in October to repair a core muscle and the labrum in his left hip, according to Sportsnet's Shi Davidi.

A destination in the AL East wouldn't be an unfamiliar spot for the outfielder as he spent four seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays from 2011-14.
