Bellator boss invites Meryl Streep to show after she criticizes MMA

Them's fighting words, Streep.

Mixed martial arts got an unexpected mention at Sunday's Golden Globes ceremony as acclaimed actress Meryl Streep seemingly took a shot at the sport while accepting the Cecil B. Demille Lifetime Achievement Award.

In a speech that was primarily aimed at the policies of president elect Donald Trump (though she did not actually say his name), the 67-year-old thespian protested the notion that the United States would be better off with less foreigners by using MMA as a negative example of what would remain in their absence:

"Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners," said Streep. "And if we kick them all out, you'll have nothing to watch but football and mixed martial arts, which are not the arts."

Unsurprisingly, the MMA Twittersphere was not impressed with Streep's comments, but Bellator president Scott Coker chose to avoid criticizing the three-time Academy Award winner and instead invited her to a show on Jan. 21:

While it's unlikely that Streep takes Coker up on his offer, it would be a quite a sight to see "The Iron Lady" cageside watching Tito Ortiz butt heads with Chael Sonnen.
