Crystal Palace is seeking backup for Wilfried Zaha.

Leicester City has turned down a £9-million approach from the Eagles for versatile right-back terroriser Jeffrey Schlupp, according to Sky Sports' Andrew Dickson, as the Croydon club seeks a replacement for Zaha now that he's departed to represent Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Schlupp, who can play at left-back or on the left wing, has fallen further out of favour at Leicester this season, making just one Premier League start, but performed well as a bit-part player in his employer's shock title win 2015-16.

He would offer balance for Sam Allardyce to Andros Townsend's work down the other flank, and competition to Chung-Yong Lee, who has returned to regular contention after being relieved of his difficult relationship with previous manager Alan Pardew.

There could be rivalry for Schlupp's signature from Championship outfit Aston Villa or West Bromwich Albion, if Tony Pulis, the handler of the latter, revives his interest from last summer. The Baggies submitted three bids for him then, all of which were rejected.

Leicester welcomes table-topping Chelsea to the King Power Stadium on Saturday, while Crystal Palace makes the short journey to West Ham United.
