Report: Cavaliers set to acquire Korver from Hawks

Basketball's second-most potent 3-point-shooting team is set to add one of the greatest outside shooters in league history.

The Atlanta Hawks are finalizing a deal Thursday that will send guard Kyle Korver to the reigning NBA champion Cleveland Cavaliers, sources tell The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski and Shams Charania.

Mike Dunleavy Jr. and a 2019 protected first-round pick will head to the Hawks, according to ESPN's Brian Windhorst.

Since first-round picks in back-to-back years can't be moved, Cleveland will reportedly send their 2017 first-round pick to the Portland Trail Blazers in order to get their 2018 first rounder - which was sent to Rip City as part of the Anderson Varejao deal last year - back, per Windhorst.

With J.R. Smith ruled out for 12-14 weeks as a result of a fractured thumb, Cleveland gets a player in Korver who can slide right in at shooting guard in the starting lineup if head coach Tyronn Lue elects to go that route. The current option, DeAndre Liggins, is far better defensively, but doesn't have the range Korver does shooting the rock.

The 35-year-old is in his 14th season, averaging 9.5 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists on 44.1 percent shooting from the field and 40.9 percent shooting from behind the arc in 27.9 minutes.

Korver ranks eighth all time in 3-pointers made (1,952), eighth in percentage (42.8), and 13th in attempts (4,554).

He's working under the final year of a four-year, $24-million contract he signed in 2013, making him an unrestricted free agent this summer.
