Rockies 'keeping track' of Encarnacion, Trumbo

Don't confuse the Colorado Rockies' tranquility for a lack of activity.

Despite a report Tuesday considering the team unlikely to land Mark Trumbo, Rockies general manager Jeff Bridich revealed the club is still keeping a keen eye on the 30-year-old, as well as fellow free-agent slugger Edwin Encarnacion.

"We're certainly keeping track ... It would be stupid of us not to keep track," Bridich told MLB Network Radio on Tuesday.

Both sluggers have seen their markets quiet down surprisingly this offseason, despite posting impressive offensive numbers in 2016. Trumbo led all of MLB with 47 home runs, while also posting a .850 OPS with the Baltimore Orioles. Encarnacion, meanwhile, led the American League in RBIs with 127, slashing .263/.357/.529 in 160 games with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Currently, the Rockies do not have a bonafide first baseman, though the team did announce new signing Ian Desmond is likely to transition into the position, despite never having played first in his career.

Encarnacion and Trumbo, however, both have experience at the corner, which could allow Colorado to revert Desmond to the outfield, a position he took up for the first time with the Texas Rangers last season.
