Report: Giants, Dodgers showing interest in Dozier
The San Francisco Giants are keeping Brian Dozier on their wish list this offseason.
Although the team has Gold Glove second baseman Joe Panik, the Giants are still showing interest in Dozier, according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports.
Of course, it's an imperfect fit as San Francisco would have to acquire Dozier via trade, and they'd likely have to include Panik in that deal to fill the Minnesota Twins lineup hole. For that reason, the Los Angeles Dodgers are the most persistent team on Dozier after Chase Utley vacated second base.
The Dodgers want Dozier so badly, in fact, they're reportedly willing to trade top pitching prospect Jose De Leon in a potential deal.
While adding Dozier would be a significant upgrade over whatever Los Angeles could pull from its farm system, he would also help the team's shoddy line against left-handed pitching.
The Dodgers slashed a combined .213/.290/.332 against lefties in 2016, as opposed to .264/.331/.441 against righties.
Dozier had a career year, slashing .268/.340/.546 with 42 home runs and 99 RBIs. Against left-handed pitching, he slashed .282/.352/.613 with 11 homers.
