Carragher tells Liverpool's Karius to 'shut up and do your job'

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has had enough of Loris Karius.

The Sky Sports pundit ripped into the German goalkeeper Sunday following another anxious appearance at Anfield.

Karius failed to keep out a manageable free-kick from West Ham's Dimitri Payet, adding yet more fuel to criticism against the 23-year-old.

Karius also cost Liverpool points last week when he bobbled the eventual winning goal in an embarrassing 4-3 defeat to Bournemouth.

Provided the opportunity to respond to Carragher and colleague Gary Neville's suggestion that Karius isn't up to snuff, the former Mainz shot-stopper insisted he didn't care what they had to say.

And Carragher bit back.

"The 'keeper got criticism last week and has come and had a pop at Gary Neville and mentioned me, and my advice would be, 'Shut up and just do your job,'" Carragher said on Sky Sports. "And doing your job and answering your critics would be saving (Payet's free-kick). That is not difficult. I think the positioning is fine, he gets across and reads it well and he is there.

"And his wrists - again like the first goal at Bournemouth - are not strong enough. It is not even in the corner and Payet has not even hit it that hard."

Manager Jurgen Klopp has maintained his trust in Karius, and absolved the young goalkeeper of blame in the 2-2 draw with West Ham. Klopp was equally incensed to hear Bournemouth had targeted Karius at Dean Court.

Meanwhile, backup Simon Mignolet is stuck on the bench. He's firmly on League Cup duty following Klopp's decision to drop the Belgian netminder from the starting XI.
