Report: Liverpool's Matip undecided over Africa Cup of Nations involvement
Joel Matip is yet to decide whether he'll end his international exile to represent Cameroon during the Africa Cup of Nations in January and February, reports ESPN FC's Glenn Price.
Liverpool fans are legitimately concerned about the upcoming showpiece, with Sadio Mane expected to travel with Senegal for the tournament and Matip, who has been a vital cog in the Reds' defence following his summer switch from FC Schalke 04, now considering returning to contention for The Indomitable Lions.
Matip hasn't played for Cameroon since 2015, but its manager, Hugo Broos, recently told Sport/Voetbalmagazine that he was hopeful of a meeting with the 25-year-old to urge him to reconsider his availability for national team duty.
According to Price's source, that chat happened last week, and Broos has left it up to Matip whether he's selected in the preliminary 35-man squad that's due to be announced next week.
Liverpool's only defeats this season - away at Burnley and Bournemouth - were when Matip wasn't in the lineup, and the German-born centre-half is hoped to be fit for Sunday's visit from West Ham United despite an ankle complaint.
