Report: Mariners maintaining dialogue with Napoli

Ken Blaze / USA TODAY Sports

The Seattle Mariners are still on the hunt for a first baseman.

With that in mind, the team is continuing to maintain a steady dialogue with slugger Mike Napoli, according to ESPN's Jerry Crasnick.

Despite being 35 years old, Napoli put himself on the map last season, belting a career-high 34 home runs and driving in 101 runs.

Seattle, already with Robinson Cano, Nelson Cruz, Kyle Seager, and Jean Segura in the meat of their order, could use a big bat to shore up their infield. Currently, the Mariners have utility man Danny Valencia slotted to play first base.

Napoli is expected to garner a lot of interest at the winter meetings, especially considering he's a power bat who has the ability to play first base.

The Cleveland Indians are also going hard on bringing back Napoli.

The team met with his camp Monday, and is pushing for a one-year deal, but, according to MLB.com's Jordan Bastian, Napoli would've already accepted a deal if it was for two years.
