Herman appears set to clean house as Texas staff falls in place

New Texas head coach Tom Herman isn't wasting time putting his staff together, as no one from Charlie Strong's staff is expected to be retained, according to Brian Davis of the American-Statesman.

"We were told to find jobs," a Strong assistant told Davis, after Herman met with all of the assistants Monday to see if they would fit with his vision for the program.

Meanwhile, Houston assistant coaches Derek Warehime (offensive line), Oscar Giles (defensive line), Corby Meekins (tight ends), and Jason Washington (special teams coordinator/cornerbacks) no longer appear as staff members on the school's website, indicating they'll follow Herman to Austin.

Warehime had updated his Twitter bio stating he was the Longhorns' offensive line coach, before taking it down, while Giles is a former defensive lineman who played at Texas and was in attendance at Herman's introductory press conference Sunday.

Houston football director of operations Fernando Lovo and recruiting director Derek Chang also had their bios removed from the school's website.

There's been no word on who will be hired as Texas' offensive and defensive coordinators. Todd Orlando, Herman's defensive coordinator at Houston, was named interim head coach for Houston, and could be hired in the permanent role.

Cougars offensive coordinator Major Applewhite has strong ties to Texas, having played for the Longhorns from 1998-2001, as well as coaching from 2008-2013. However, he wasn't retained when Strong was hired in 2014, and also faced discipline by the university in 2013 for having an inappropriate relationship with a student trainer.

Like Orlando, Applewhite could be hired as Houston's head coach.
