Report: Pirates open to trading Josh Harrison

Although former National League MVP Andrew McCutchen is on the radar of many clubs around baseball interested in potentially making a deal with the Pirates, he isn't the only Pittsburgh player that could be on the move.

The Pirates are open to trading second baseman Josh Harrison, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

According to Rosenthal's sources, the Pirates tried to re-sign infielder Sean Rodriguez - before he took a deal with the Atlanta Braves - with the idea of trading the more expensive Harrison and reallocating funds to other players in their organization.

The incredibly versatile Harrison - who spent most of last season at second base - has played seven different positions during his career. He's an above-average infielder at both second and third, posting a combined plus-33 defensive runs saved at the two positions during his career.

At the dish, Harrison drove in 59 runs and stole 19 bases in 2016, but posted his lowest OPS (.699) since 2013, while hitting just four home runs.

The 29-year-old is guaranteed $18.5 million over the next two seasons, and has team options of $10.5 million and $11.5 million in 2019 and '20, respectively.

If the Pirates trade the six-year veteran, they could turn to internal options Alen Hanson or Adam Frazier at second.
