Holloway-Pettis interim title fight is UFC 206's new main event

UFC 206 has a new main event, and the implications will reverberate through the promotion's featherweight division.

With Daniel Cormier pulling out of his heavyweight title bout against Anthony Johnson due to injury, the previously scheduled fight between Max Holloway and Anthony Pettis will be bumped into an interim featherweight title bout in the prime slot of the Dec. 10 event, the promotion announced on Saturday's broadcast of UFC Fight Night 101.

The UFC added that dual-division champion Conor McGregor will relinquish the 145-pound strap to accommodate the changes, making Jose Aldo, who won the interim title with a unanimous decision over Frankie Edgar at UFC 200, the undisputed featherweight champion.

McGregor first earned the featherweight title with a knockout win over Aldo just 13 seconds into their showdown at UFC 194. His dismantling of Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight title earlier this month made him the UFC's first-ever double champion, but he'll now forfeit the featherweight belt and remain atop the lightweight division.

UFC 206 will take place at Air Canada Centre in Toronto, marking Canada's third event of the year.
