Report: Bruce Arena set for interim role as U.S. head coach

LA Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena is reportedly set to retake the helm of the U.S. men's national team, according to multiple reports, after it was announced Monday by U.S. Soccer that Jurgen Klinsmann had been fired from the post.

Grant Wahl of Sports Illustrated adds that confirmation of Arena's appointment could come as early as Tuesday.

Arena previously coached the USMNT from 1998-2006, before being replaced by current Swansea City manager Bob Bradley.

Arena then took over the New York Red Bulls for one season, but switched to the Galaxy in 2008, where he worked with the league's two biggest stars - David Beckham and Landon Donovan - winning the MLS Cup in 2011, 2012, and 2014. Los Angeles also claimed the MLS Supporters' Shield in 2010 and 2011.

Arena's contract with the LA Galaxy had been in question since season's end, but earlier reports had him lined up as Klinsmann's replacement, days before a decision was made regarding the German tactician's future.

Sporting Kansas City head coach Peter Vermes was another reported candidate for the USMNT role.
