Texas to evaluate Strong's body of work after finale, AD says
If Texas has indeed decided to fire Charlie Strong, athletic director Mike Perrin seems to be the last one to know.
Despite multiple reports surfacing on Sunday that the school has decided to part ways with the embattled coach, Perrin refuted those in a statement, claiming no decision will be made until after Friday's game against TCU.
"There are a number of rumors out there about the status of Coach Strong," Perrin said, as per Andy Staples of Sports Illustrated. "I've said it all along, we will evaluate the body of work after the regular season. We have a game to get ready for against TCU on Friday, and I hope our fans will come out and support our team. We'll discuss where things stand after that."
Perrin has been steadfast with his stance that Strong would last the season before the school made any decisions regarding his future, but Saturday's shocking loss to Kansas seemed to be the death knell for the 56-year-old's employment.
The reports said the official decision to dismiss Strong could come as early as Monday, when the third-year frontman is scheduled to have his weekly press conference at 11:00 a.m CT.
Regardless of what else may surface on Sunday, Strong's press availability is certainly must-see television.
