Pochettino salutes 'one of the world's best' Kane

Down a goal at home with minutes remaining and facing a first league defeat of the campaign, Tottenham needed a heroic effort, and that's exactly what Maurcio Pochettino's lot got with Harry Kane's late match-winning brace.

Understandably, the Argentine gaffer was full of praise for last season's 25-goal star.

"Harry's back!," an ebullient Pochettino told reporters after the incident-laden tilt at White Hart Lane. "He's one of the best strikers in the world."

"When you play without your main striker for 10 or 11 games it's tough for any team. He's a player who is very important for us."

Kane has now returned to first-team football against West Ham and in the 1-1 draw with north London rival Arsenal on the other side of the international break after an ankle injury saw the England international miss two months.

The PFA Team of the Year honouree bagged a pivotal penalty against the Gunners at the Emirates, and he did it again Saturday against a spirited West Ham side.

With the victory, Spurs remain the Premier League's only side yet to taste defeat, though it didn't appear that way after Manuel Lanzini gave the Irons the lead with a 68th-minute penalty.

Then, Harry Kane happened.

The Spurs striker levelled matters in the 89th minute only to snatch the three points 120 seconds later from the spot after late substitute Havard Nordtveit clumsily brought down Heung Min-Son in the area.

A jubilant Pochettino leapt for joy on the touchline and did little to curtail his elation when assessing his side's efforts in the bowels of the stadium minutes later.

"I'm very, very happy - but I don't know if I can say with the performance, but the character we showed. It wasn't our best game, but sometimes it's difficult when you have a good team in front of you with a good plan to stop us."

Kane echoed his manager's sentiments, saying, "What a win, it looked like it would be a disappointing afternoon. I thought we had played well and we left it late, what a night, what a performance."
