Jurgen Klinsmann is in serious trouble.
After opening up the Hex with a 2-1 loss to bitter rival Mexico, the United States was expected to rebound in Costa Rica with an emphatic bounce-back performance - despite a dire historical record in the country.
Instead, the Americans put in a brutal display that lacked both urgency and quality, and were promptly embarrassed by Los Ticos during a dizzying 10-minute spell in the second half.
John Brooks will get much of the criticism as Costa Rica scored three times in rapid succession, with a 68th-minute Christian Bolanos goal making it 2-0 before substitute Joel Campbell scored a quickfire brace.
The striker's first tally (shown above) was the pick of the team's quartet, as he capitalized on an error by Brooks, nutmegged the defender, and slid the ball home.
#USMNT trails by FOUR goals in a World Cup qualifier for the first time since 1980 at Estadio Azteca.
