Agent: Bellerin will sign new Arsenal contract

Hector Bellerin is on the verge of committing his long-term future to Arsenal by signing a new contract, the Spanish player's agent confirmed.

With more than two years still remaining on his current deal, Bellerin is set to informally reject interest from his former club Barcelona by putting pen to paper on a new contract that will keep him in north London beyond 2019.

Bellerin's representative, Albert Botines, revealed that he held productive discussions with Arsenal officials last week and that his client is happy to extend his stay at the club.

“We are speaking and are now a lot closer than we were two weeks ago. In a normal situation he will sign,” Botines said in an interview with Ed Aarons of the Guardian.

“Hector is very happy at Arsenal. This would be the fourth time he has signed a new contract at the club and it is clear he has made good progress.”

Earlier in the season, there was speculation Bellerin could be set for a return to Spain when Barcelona vice president Jordi Mestre suggested the right-back could follow in the footsteps of former Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas and return to the club that nurtured him during his youth career.

Bellerin, 21, has evolved into one of the top full-backs in the Premier League following his breakout campaign in 2014-15.

His success in London also earned him a call-up to the Spanish national team for the first time, including a spot on the final roster ahead of the European Championship in France last summer.
