Report: Rays not interested in trading Longoria

Matt Silverman, the Tampa Bay Rays' president of baseball operations, said his club remains "open to everything" this winter following a 68-win campaign in 2016, but there appears to be at least one player they won't move.

As the annual GM meetings near, the Rays reportedly aren't interested in moving veteran third baseman Evan Longoria, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times.

After stumbling through two straight mediocre seasons from 2014-15, Longoria bounced back this year, smashing a career-high 36 homers while managing an .840 OPS (127 OPS+) and 4.5 WAR in 160 games. A franchise icon, Longoria has spent his entire career in Tampa Bay, earning three All-Star nods and a pair of Gold Glove awards, while also grabbing the all-time team records for games played (1,279), wins above replacement (47.1), home runs (241), doubles, and runs batted in (806) in his nine years with the Rays

Longoria, who signed an extension with Tampa Bay ahead of the 2013 campaign, is guaranteed another $99 million for the next six seasons, and has a $13-million team option for 2023.
