FC Dallas has claimed the 2016 MLS Supporters' Shield with a 0-0 draw against the LA Galaxy Sunday, finishing the season with 60 points, two more than the Colorado Rapids who drew 1-1 with the Houston Dynamo at the same time.

Oscar Pareja's side posted 17 wins, eight losses, and nine draws in a successful 2016 regular season campaign. Maximiliano Urruti and Michael Barrios led the team in scoring with nine goals each and owe those efforts to the creative mind (and feet) of Mauro Diaz, who recorded 13 assists in 2016.

Pareja's side started the 2016 season off in less-than-impressive fashion, losing 5-0 to Texas rivals Houston Dynamo on Week 2, then going on a three-game losing streak through the end of April into the start of May. But, a string of positive results in the summer saw Dallas climb into pole position in the end.

FC Dallas now waits for a playoff opponent after earning a knockout round bye, but the team's search for the MLS Cup will be made more difficult as Diaz picked up a season-ending torn Achilles injury requiring surgery last week.

In any case, Pareja's high-flying Dallas side has at least one piece of silverware to commemorate an impressive 2016 MLS season, and has a chance to complete a treble with a U.S. Open Cup title to its name in 2016 as well.
