Osweiler taking lessons from Peyton into matchup against former team

Brock Osweiler will face his former team this week when the Houston Texans visit the Denver Broncos on Monday night and he believes he's uniquely qualified to handle the situation.

The Broncos defense is champing at the bit to face its former quarterback, and the crowd at Sports Authority Field at Mile High will not be offering Osweiler a warm welcome back. The 25-year-old spurned the team's efforts to re-sign him and instead went with the Texans for four years and $72 million.

Osweiler believes he has the right mindset to look past such factors. He'll use a lesson he learned during his time as a Bronco, when Peyton Manning prepared to face his former team, the Indianapolis Colts.

"I remember being in our Saturday night quarterback meeting, and when I got to that meeting I was kind of anxious to see how he was going to be, what kind of energy he would have," Osweiler said, according to Deepi Sidhu of HoustonTexans.com. "I'll never forget it. He stepped into the meeting and the way he conducted himself, he was the same Peyton Manning that he was the week before, the week before that, and the week before that."

Osweiler spent his first four years as a pro in Denver and helped the Broncos reach the Super Bowl last season, a game they would win with him on the bench. He spent a good deal of time learning from Manning and hopes it will pay off Monday.

"I think that was a huge lesson for myself and that was one of the many lessons I was so fortunate to be able to learn from him," he said. "He treated that football game just like any other football game. I'm sure there was emotion involved with that but he certainly did a phenomenal job of removing that and focusing on his job."
