7 teams that overcame 0-2 deficits in the LDS

Super 70s Sports/Twitter

When the Boston Red Sox and Texas Rangers woke up Saturday morning, they found themselves in unfamiliar territory.

In the driver's seat for most of the regular season in their respective divisions, the two squads were ambushed by the Cleveland Indians and Toronto Blue Jays, losing their first two games of the ALDS.

While winning three games in a row is a daunting task, it's not impossible. Here's a look at seven teams who did it in the past:

Blue Jays (2015)

You don't have to think hard to remember this one. Having made the playoffs for the first time since winning the World Series in 1993, the Toronto Blue Jays almost saw their parade rained on early - at home no less - when the Texas Rangers jumped out to a 2-0 lead. But over their next three games, the Blue Jays stormed back, capped off by "the inning" in Game 5 at the Rogers Centre.

Giants (2012)

When Buster Posey hit a grand slam in the fifth inning of Game 5 against the Cincinnati Reds, no one had any idea that it would soon lead the San Francisco Giants to a World Series title. After the Reds dominated the first two games, the Giants took Game 3 in extra innings, before Posey's decisive blow in the final game of the series.

Red Sox (2003)

For the second time in three years, the Oakland Athletics blew it. Trot Nixon was the hero for the Red Sox, as his 11th inning walk-off home run capped off a crazy five-game series. Pedro Martinez got the ball in the deciding game, going seven innings, surrendering three runs on seven hits and six strikeouts.

Yankees (2001)

This is the first of two times the Oakland Athletics choked in the playoffs. After winning the first two games of the series, beating Roger Clemens and Andy Pettitte in the process, it all went downhill from there. The Yankees held the A's to five runs over the next three games, eventually advancing to the World Series where they would fall to the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Red Sox (1999)

In 2016 the Indians are up 2-0 on the Red Sox, but the exact same thing happened in the 1999 ALDS. After taking a commanding lead in the series, Boston stormed back to thump the Indians 9-3 and 23-7 in Game 3 and Game 4, respectively.

Mariners (1995)

In the inaugural year of the five-game set in division play, the Seattle Mariners made it count. The Yankees featured a team of Don Mattingly, Ruben Sierra, Bernie Williams, Wade Boggs, Paul O'Neill, and more. But as the Mariners went down 2-0 in the series, Seattle stunned New York by winning the next three games, including a walk-off RBI double by Edgar Martinez in Game 5.

Dodgers (1981)

This was the first ever best-of-five series, and it happened because of the 1981 strike. In their NLDS matchup against the Houston Astros, the Los Angeles Dodgers rallied to win three straight. The best part was Fernando Valenzuela, Burt Hooton, and Jerry Reuss held the Astros to two runs in the last three games of the series.
