Report: Bucks stepped up attempts to trade Monroe this summer

The Milwaukee Bucks let it be known among NBA teams this offseason they were looking to move Greg Monroe.

After reportedly shopping Monroe prior to the NBA draft, the Bucks accelerated their attempts to move the big man throughout the summer, according to Gery Woelfel of The Journal Times.

The Bucks were so persistent in their efforts, the consensus among front office officials was the 26-year-old wouldn't be on the team when training camp commenced.

After signing a three-year, $51.3-million contract last summer, Monroe struggled during his first season in Milwaukee, putting up empty numbers on a lottery team.

Monroe's agent, David Falk, denied reports his client wanted out of Milwaukee, but admits Monroe's first season with the Bucks didn't go as planned.

"Greg expects to be in training camp with the Bucks," Falk said. "He’s looking to have a great season for the Bucks. If anything changes, we’ll deal with it at that time."

In 79 games last season, Monroe averaged 15.3 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists, but struggled mightily on the defensive end, as the Bucks gave up greater than four points per 100 possessions more when the Georgetown product was on the court.

With training camp just a week away, it appears likely Monroe will remain with the Bucks for the time being.
