Here are theScore's second baseman value rankings for Saturday, September 17 (all stats exclude Friday's games):

Value Rankings
C | 1B/DH | 2B | SS | 3B | OF | SP

Top Options

Name Opponent Value
Starlin Castro (NYY) at BOS 8
Sean Rodriguez (PIT) at CIN 8
Chase Utley (LAD) at ARI 8

Now in a cleanup role, Castro has four straight multi-hit games, with a home run, two doubles and three RBIs. Against the Yankees this year, David Price holds a 7.79 ERA, with Castro having gone 4-for-8 against the lefty.

Rodriguez is hitting .290 against left-handed pitching this season, and has homered twice in his last three games. All in all, Rodriguez holds a .368 average over his last 10 games as he sees regular playing time thanks to numerous injuries.

Utley hits .295 away to right-handed pitching, and went 3-for-4 with an RBI on Thursday at hitter-friendly Chase Field.

Mid-Tier Targets

Name Opponent Value
Ryan Schimpf (SD) at COL 7
Jean Segura (ARI) vs. LAD 6
Scooter Gennett (MIL) at CHC 6

Segura is on fire, with four home runs and five RBIs over his last three games. He doesn't normally carry such a power threat, having hit a quarter of his 16 home runs on the season in that stretch, making his price particularly unfriendly.

Schimpf doesn't receive too onerous a Coors Field price bump, and he's a decent play against right-handed pitching no matter the venue. 16 of his 19 home runs have been hit in just 196 at-bats against righties.

Nothing to See Here

Name Opponent Value
Matt Carpenter (STL) at SF 4
Jose Altuve (HOU) at SEA 3
Ben Zobrist (CHC) vs. MIL 2

While neither has a poor matchup, Carpenter and Zobrist just haven't been hitting consistently enough of late to consider. Altuve is a health risk with an oblique injury; he could be hindered or could be scratched before gametime.
