Boeheim: Current roster is Syracuse's best 'in a long time'

David Banks-USA TODAY Sports

Syracuse made a surprising run to the Final Four last year, but Jim Boeheim expects even more success this season, raving about his team in a recent interview with ESPN's Andy Katz.

"We've got everything," Boeheim said. "We've got depth. We've got shooters. We've got size. This is the best team we've had in a long time."

The shocking part of the Orange's run to the Final Four was the fact they entered the tournament as a 10-seed. While there was talent on the roster, Syracuse's current team stacks up well in comparison.

Michael Gbinije, Trevor Cooney, and Malachi Richardson are gone, but Syracuse reloaded with transfers John Gillon and Andrew White, along with highly touted freshman Tyus Battle and rising sophomore Frank Howard. Add that firepower to projected first-round pick Tyler Lydon, and it's clear why Boeheim is high on his squad.

In the last five years, Syracuse has lost twice in the Final Four, once in the Elite Eight, and once in the Sweet 16. It's been a pretty impressive run for the ACC powerhouse, and if Boeheim's assessment of this year's roster is accurate, don't be shocked to see the Orange cutting down the nets in April.
