The Pittsburgh Steelers placed linebacker Bud Dupree on injured reserve Sunday.
The sophomore pass-rusher will undergo surgery to fix a core muscle tear, a source told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Dupree has also dealt with a groin injury throughout training camp and the preseason.
The 2015 first-round pick will be eligible to come back after Week 8 as the Steelers' sole designation to return in season.
The team signed linebacker Steven Johnson in a corresponding move.
