Premier League team of the weekend: Drinkwater, Kante reunited in fulcrum
After a weekend of some great individual performances, theScore puts together a best XI from the latest slate of Premier League fixtures.
The lineup
GK - Artur Boruc
Edging Michel Vorm for a spot between the sticks is Bournemouth veteran Artur Boruc, who kept Crystal Palace out all of Saturday until Scott Dann's last-ditch equaliser. The Pole denied a Yohan Cabaye penalty on 16 minutes.
RB - Antonio Valencia
Antonio Valencia's teammate Ander Herrera has dubbed him the world's best at right-back - which is perhaps a bit far - but the Ecuadorian is now finely pairing his ability going forward with some defensive nous.
CB - Curtis Davies
You've got to feel for Curtis Davies. Holding things down at the back despite being given an unfamiliar partner in midfielder Jake Livermore, the Luton Town academy graduate's work was undone by Marcus Rashford's winner at the death.
CB - Lamine Kone
Sunderland boss David Moyes has made some underwhelming moves in the transfer market, but his best piece of business could be keeping hold of Lamine Kone. The Ivorian completed eight clearances in Southampton.
LB - Danny Rose
Tottenham Hotspur's attempts to equalise against Liverpool through Harry Kane et al were fruitless until Danny Rose stepped up with a low drive. No Spurs defender put in more tackles, and he was surprisingly proficient in the air as well.
DM - N'Golo Kante
N'Golo Kante has eased into Antonio Conte's Chelsea, shaking awake a side that downed tools last season. His work's allowed his new side to express more freedom on the flanks, and he completed each of his six long passes against Burnley when trying to instigate one of these expansive attacks.
DM - Danny Drinkwater
Deservedly called into Sam Allardyce's first England squad, Danny Drinkwater was his usual combative self in Saturday's 2-1 downing of Swansea City. His passing range is his greatest attribute, though, and he delivered a fine assist for Jamie Vardy's opener.
RW - Raheem Sterling
In the space of a month or so, Raheem Sterling has gone from being harshly chastised for his contributions at Euro 2016, to being one of the most fearsome wingers in the division. Scored a ruthless brace against West Ham on Sunday.
AM - David Silva
Occasionally tasked with more defensive responsibility by Pep Guardiola, David Silva was instead expertly finding space in the final third throughout West Ham's visit. Registered a game-high 89 touches in Manchester City's 3-1 win.
LW - Eden Hazard
He's back. Seemingly reinvigorated by doing very little last season, Eden Hazard is back to his dazzling best. The Belgian banged seven shots on Saturday, as he continually slalomed inside above his dancing feet.
FW - Alexis Sanchez
Olivier Giroud was left on the bench for the weekend trip to Watford in favour of the diminutive Alexis Sanchez leading the line. The Chilean expertly drifted around in attack, confusing the Hornets with his lateral wanderings while nicking a goal and an assist for the Gunners.
