Cavani relishing chance to be Paris Saint-Germain's main man

Three years after joining Paris Saint-Germain from Napoli, Edinson Cavani is finally the club's first-choice No. 9, and the Uruguayan international is relishing the opportunity to star for the four-time defending Ligue 1 champ.

With Zlatan Ibrahimovic under Jose Mourinho's watch at Manchester United, Cavani will now be afforded the chance to play as a traditional striker in Unai Emery's squad.

"I think it's a beautiful opportunity, to play the football I want to play, in the position that I really like playing in," Cavani told beIN Sports.

"I really hope so, not for me, but for everything, for the team, for the city, for the supporters, for everything."

With the chance to shine at Parc des Princes, Cavani will see plenty of opportunities in hopes that his efforts aren't as futile as they were during last Sunday's 3-0 victory over Metz.

Compared to the angular Ibrahimovic, who was happy to drop deep and collect the ball while exercising a penchant for incisive passes, Cavani is an out-and-out No. 9.

"I think I am bit more aggressive on the pitch, but that's not because I'm an aggressive person, it's because that's my way of playing when I'm on the pitch," offered Cavani.

Looking to replicate his 2012-13 campaign with Napoli when the 29-year-old striker bagged 29 goals in 34 Serie A appearances, Cavani is relishing the opportunity to capitalise on the chances that fall to his feet.

"I'm a striker so when I'm on the pitch I'm always looking for the moment to score, trying to find the moment to make a difference, and I think that my ability to make runs is important. For someone with my style of play, it's important."

Cavani will get his chance to display his virtues Sunday, when PSG travels to the principality to lock horns with Monaco in the weekend's marquee matchup.
