Los Angeles Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman believes that Yasiel Puig has made the most of his demotion to Triple-A earlier this month.

"The conversations we had with him at the beginning of August really resonated with him," Friedman told Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY Sports. "I think there's been a very conscious effort to listen to what was said, and apply it to his daily work. The reports from (Oklahoma City manager Bill) Haselman have been really good.

"I was there a couple weeks ago, and it's obviously a short blip of time, but he's done everything we've asked in this process."

Yasiel Puig has admitted that his demotion to Triple-A has taught him humility. He also apologized to manager Dave Roberts and said he wants to be a better teammate.

Friedman did not say whether or not the team will recall Puig when rosters expand in September, and neither confirmed, nor denied, a report that Puig was claimed on waivers Tuesday.

"Virtually all players in August go through waivers," Friedman said. "It's a confidential process, and if and when a trade is announced, that's when the news becomes public. Otherwise, it's a formality, all players go through it, and it rarely results in a trade."

If Puig was claimed, the Dodgers have 72 hours to either work out a trade with the team that claimed him, pull him back off waivers, or let him go to the team without receiving any compensation.

After hitting .260/.320/.386 with seven home runs in 81 games with the Dodgers, Puig has gone on to hit .369/.414/.631 with four homers in 18 games in Triple-A. He's under contract through the 2018 season.
