Joe Hart's unceremonious dumping from first XI consideration at Manchester City has seen his name linked to the likes of Sevilla and Everton, and the manager of the latter didn't make pains to distance himself from a move.

Ronald Koeman was speaking on Thursday ahead of a trip to West Bromwich Albion two days later, and admitted that the club is deciding whether teenager Mateusz Hewelt suffices a third-choice goalkeeper in Merseyside.

"We need three goalkeepers‚" Koeman said. "We have Joel (Robles), we have Maarten (Stekelenburg), we have a young goalkeeper. We don't like to stop the development of our young players. This is the decision we need to make."

Hart, an undisputed first-choice shot stopper with Manchester City and England for six years, was benched for new boss Pep Guardiola's first two matches at the helm. The decision came amid suggestions that the former Shrewsbury Town man wasn't comfortable enough in possession for the Spaniard.

Various reports have suggested that Barcelona's Claudio Bravo, 33, has been sighted as a replacement for Hart, but in the interim period Willy Caballero is donning the gloves.

"What I don’t like is to talk about rumours‚ and that applies for the next two weeks," Koeman explained, alluding to when the transfer window closes on Aug. 31. "So many players are linked to Everton, and today it's Joe Hart, but I prefer not to talk about players under contract.

"What I can say though is that you are always looking for players that will make a stronger squad than we have. One of our jobs is to improve the team and if we don't have that type of player we will sign that player."

With the coffers replenished by new majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri, the Toffees haven't been demure in their transfer dealings this summer, splurging around £25 million on Yannick Bolasie earlier this week.

Considering the Iranian billionaire's promise of "whatever I have" to Everton back in March, it appears likely that the Merseyside outfit will delve back into the market before the window swings shut.

Everton drew 1-1 in its season opener with Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, with its next three outings coming against West Brom, Yeovil Town in the League Cup, and Stoke City.
