WWE suspends Paige for violating wellness policy
WWE superstar Paige (real name: Saraya-Jade Bevis) won't be looking back at her 24th birthday with the fondest of memories.
The two-time Divas Champion was suspended 30 days by the wrestling promotion for her first violation of the company's talent wellness policy, WWE announced on her birthday Wednesday.
WWE didn't disclose the specific violation, but it's likely related to the substance abuse and drug testing policy.
Per WWE Corporate:
The Substance Abuse and Drug Testing Policy prohibits the use of drugs by WWE talent for other than a legitimate medical purpose pursuant to a valid prescription from a licensed and treating physician. The use of masking agents and/or diuretics to conceal or obscure the use of prohibited drugs is also forbidden.
A second violation would lead to a 60-day suspension, while a third results in immediate termination from ones contract.
Her suspension will go into effect Thursday, meaning she'll be eligible to return to the squared circle Sept. 17.
Paige's off-screen boyfriend, Alberto Del Rio, was also popped for a wellness policy violation Wednesday, although it's unclear whether the two are connected.
Paige isn't scheduled to compete at SummerSlam, which will air live from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Aug. 21. In fact, she hasn't had a match since teaming with new Women's Champion Sasha Banks against Charlotte and Dana Brooke on the June 27 edition of Monday Night Raw.
