West Ham United has dotted the Is and crossed the Ts on the paperwork for Jonathan Calleri's loan move from Deportivo Maldonado.

The Hammers confirmed an agreement was in place to land the 22-year-old last Thursday, and the striker was unveiled on Tuesday ahead of his season-long sojourn in Stratford.

"I am very happy to have signed for West Ham," said Calleri. "This represents a fantastic new challenge for me and I am really looking forward to it."

Calleri, who will wear No. 28, arrives after he was the top scorer in the 2016 Copa Libertadores while on a loan spell with Sao Paulo. He apparently sought the advice of Carlos Tevez - who spent a temporary spell at West Ham in 2006-07 - before making the switch.

Deportivo Maldonado, a tiny outfit from Uruguay, operates by "trading elite South American players who never appear in a game," as Bloomberg explains. It's a controversial policy which alleviates tax burdens on investors who own the footballers' transfer rights.

Calleri added: "The Premier League is the best league in the world and so I am delighted to have this opportunity to play in such a prestigious league."

Following his inclusion in Argentina's disappointing group-stage exit at Rio 2016, the attacker missed West Ham's season opening 2-1 loss at Chelsea, but finally links up with the squad ahead of Thursday's Europa League tilt against Astra Giurgiu in Romania.
