Alex Rodriguez kept insisting this week he'll always be a Yankee. In the final moments of his pinstripes farewell, he scooped up some proof.

Following an emotional exchange with family and teammates after the final out of his last game with the Yankees, A-Rod returned to the spot where he cemented - and ended - his career in New York: third base.

With a souvenir ball from his 2,784th MLB game in hand , Rodriguez pocketed some dirt from the third-base side of the infield before walking off to a standing ovation from players and the Yankee Stadium faithful.

In what was expected to be the final game of his major-league career, A-Rod went 1-for-4 with an RBI double and a ninth-inning appearance at his familiar third base. Rodriguez, who is expected to be formally released now by the Yankees, finishes his 12-year run in the Bronx with two MVPs, a World Series title, 351 homers, and 1,096 RBIs, among many other notable accomplishments and memorable moments.
