Watch: Rain disrupts A-Rod's farewell ceremony

MLB.com

It literally rained on his parade.

A torrential downpour interrupted an otherwise moving pregame ceremony to honor New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez ahead of his final game in pinstripes. As he was being presented a base that was signed by his teammates, the Bronx skies opened up, and those involved in the ceremony retreated to safety in the dugout.

Before the rain, Rodriguez was joined on the field by his mother, his two daughters, and former teammate Mariano Rivera, as well as members of the Yankees' ownership group. The team also presented the 41-year-old with a framed Yankees jersey, while his first manager in Seattle, Lou Piniella, offered him congratulations in a video message.

The rainstorm also caused the start of Friday's contest to be slightly delayed. What had been announced as a 7:30 p.m. ET first pitch was pushed back to approximately 8:00 p.m.
