Woodley surprised by title fight announcement
It sounds like Tyron Woodley and Stephen Thompson found out about their supposed welterweight title fight at the same time as everyone else.
UFC president Dana White mentioned to UFC.com on Thursday that Thompson is in line to be Woodley's first title defense. The announcement was hardly official, but Thompson posted a message on Facebook expressing his gratitude to the boss for giving him the opportunity:
BOOYAH!!!!! Thank you Dana White! Thank you UFC! Extreme Thank you to all the fans that supported me and this title shot! Time to get to work and bring that belt home!!!!!
"Wonderboy" may want to rein in his enthusiasm, however, given that Woodley doesn't seem to have any idea what White is talking about.
The champ took to Twitter to express his bewilderment at White's proclamation.
Funny how there is an official fight announced and I 1) Havent spoken to anyone 2) Agreed on opponent or date 3) Signed a bout agreement. 😭😭
