Preseason Power Ranking - #14

The Giants grabbed handfuls of cash and threw it at any big defensive free agent that moved this offseason. Rarely do quick fixes work in the NFL, however. Eli Manning and Odell Beckham Jr. will have to keep New York afloat as the defense gels. More...

Questions to Answer

  • How will the team fare without Tom Coughlin?
  • Will the free-agent additions fix the defense?
  • How far can Manning and Beckham carry the offense?

Best Case Scenario

The money spent in free agency all works out, the defense finds a pass-rush groove, and Spagnuolo gets his unit back to the form he had it playing in 2007-08. Cruz stays healthy and helps develop Shepard, while OBJ continues his own high-flying progression. Eli takes over as the league's best Manning and leads the Giants to a division win with a 12-4 record. Getting hot late in the season, the G-Men make another surprising run to the Super Bowl.

Worst Case Scenario

Big-name defensive free agents clash with resident veterans and it's revealed McAdoo is nothing more than a good play-caller when he can't deal with the feuding egos. Cruz never hits the field and Beckham gets too caught up in his off-field battles and new celebrity status. The offensive line has Manning running for his life and the running backs not running at all. The team falls to a 4-12 pace and Pierre-Paul leaves for the Cowboys in free agency.
