Zlatan promises Community Shield win: 'I didn't come here to waste time'

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has made his boldest declaration yet as a Manchester United player.

The bombastic 34-year-old Swede left nothing to the imagination before his competitive debut in Sunday's Community Shield, guaranteeing a win over defending Premier League champion Leicester City.

"That is the first trophy game and that is the first trophy we will bring home," Ibrahimovic told MUTV. "For me, every trophy is serious. I have collected 30 trophies and I want to collect more of them. I'm not satisfied until I collect everything. That's what we play for. I play to win."

It's true that Ibrahimovic conquered the Eredivisie, Serie A, La Liga, and Ligue 1 before his arrival at Old Trafford. He enjoyed his most successful tenure as Paris Saint-Germain's leading forward in France over the past four years, securing a domestic double last season with the capital club.

The Community Shield doesn't carry the same weight as some of the silverware in his cabinet - which is still missing the Champions League title.

But despite his European troubles, Ibrahimovic has a reputation as one of the game's serial winners.

"I'm used to winning trophies," he said. "I didn't come here to waste time."

The former Ajax, Inter, and AC Milan hit man has captured league titles in the first season of every one of his club stints. If he were to add the Premier League crown to his collection, he would become the only player to claim league honours in five different countries.

"Wherever I came, they also play to win. I didn't come here to lose time. I came here to win," Ibrahimovic added. "I believe the philosophy is the same for (United), especially a club like this. They are made to win."

He opened his scoring account for the Red Devils in spectacular fashion last week, when he executed a perfect scissor-kick within the first four minutes of his United bow against Galatasaray.
