Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett recently called upon the stars of the NFL to be more vocal about the social issues, and singled out Cam Newton as an example of a player who should do more.

Now, Bennett has reportedly realized he was wrong to do so.

Bennett has since called Newton to apologize for his comments, a source told Darin Gantt of Pro Football Talk.

Players like Peyton Manning and Aaron Rodgers were also mentioned by Bennett. However, he said white players don't face the same issues, and then criticised Newton for taking a soft position and focusing on earning money.

"Our great players are sitting back taking the dollars, whether it's Cam Newton, all these guys, they're just not at the forefront of trying to change what's going on,' Bennett said. "As a great player, you have to remember that there was people who came before you."

Bennett urged NFL players to take up a similar stance to that of players from the NBA and WNBA, with the biggest stars of those sports speaking out against the recent issues of racism and police brutality.
