Fantasy: 12-team PPR mock draft

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

Get ready for your season with theScore's 2016 Fantasy Football Draft Kit

The latest entry in our mock draft series flips to PPR scoring, which may soon replace non-PPR as the standard fantasy format.

Factoring in a point for every reception dramatically alters the value of players, especially high-volume slot receivers and pass-catching running backs. It also forces owners to address the receiver position early in drafts or risk entering the season with an ill-equipped roster.

This is a PPR scoring league with the following roster spots: QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, TE, FLEX, DEF, K, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN.

Draft Participants: Caitlyn Holroyd, Jason Wilson, Michael McClymont, James Bisson, Mitch Sanderson, Justin Boone, Gino Bottero, Ken Conrad, Dan Wilkins, Josh Ghatak, Josh Wegman, and Jack Browne.

Round 1

Pick Player Owner
1 Antonio Brown (WR1) Holroyd
2 Julio Jones (WR2) Wilson
3 Odell Beckham (WR3) McClymont
4 DeAndre Hopkins (WR4) Bisson
5 Dez Bryant (WR5) Sanderson
6 A.J. Green (WR6) Boone
7 Adrian Peterson (RB1) Bottero
8 Todd Gurley (RB2) Conrad
9 Ezekiel Elliott (RB3) Wilkins
10 Allen Robinson (WR7) Ghatak
11 Rob Gronkowski (TE1) Wegman
12 David Johnson (RB4) Browne

Round 1: Six straight receivers to start the first round seems a little excessive, even for a PPR draft, but that's the world we're living in with Le'Veon Bell suspended for the first four games ... Speaking of the Bell suspension, Peterson is a slight surprise as the first runner off the board. However, in the first round, you're not necessarily looking for value - you want to come away with a player you believe in, and Peterson has the best fantasy track record of all the top backs.

Round 2

Pick Player Owner
13 Keenan Allen (WR8) Browne
14 Le'Veon Bell (RB5) Wegman
15 Alshon Jeffery (WR9) Ghatak
16 Lamar Miller (RB6) Wilkins
17 Jordy Nelson (WR10) Conrad
18 Brandon Marshall (WR11) Bottero
19 Mike Evans (WR12) Boone
20 Mark Ingram (RB7) Sanderson
21 T.Y. Hilton (WR13) Bisson
22 Amari Cooper (WR14) McClymont
23 Jamaal Charles (RB8) Wilson
24 Doug Martin (RB9) Holroyd

Round 2: Bell being selected near the top of the second round as the fifth running back is a risky move by Team Wegman. In addition to missing the first month, Bell is also coming back from a serious injury and is another off-field mistake away from missing an even bigger chunk of the season. Bell will be a wild card in many drafts, but belongs in the early third round ... I was hoping to snag Marshall in the mid-second as my WR2, but with the news of Ryan Fitzpatrick re-signing, Marshall's price is on the rise, especially in PPR.

Round 3

Pick Player Owner
25 LeSean McCoy (RB10) Holroyd
26 Jarvis Landry (WR15) Wilson
27 Devonta Freeman (RB11) McClymont
28 Brandin Cooks (WR16) Bisson
29 Sammy Watkins (WR17) Sanderson
30 Demaryius Thomas (WR18) Boone
31 Randall Cobb (WR19) Bottero
32 Matt Forte (RB12) Conrad
33 Julian Edelman (WR20) Wilkins
34 Kelvin Benjamin (WR21) Ghatak
35 Jeremy Maclin (WR22) Wegman
36 Golden Tate (WR23) Browne

Round 3: Even with the Falcons talking up the idea of getting Tevin Coleman more involved in the backfield, this is still a ridiculously low price to pay for Freeman. If Coleman does take on more of a role, it will be carries, not receptions, an area where Freeman excels. The Falcons are likely to find themselves trailing often this season, and in those moments they will turn to Freeman's pass-catching abilities to help them stage comebacks. He's an excellent value in the third ... Benjamin is a very talented receiver, but I would rather have Maclin or Tate at this point in the draft. The Panthers have become a more well-rounded offense, which will reduce the need to force the ball to their top receiver.

Round 4

Pick Player Owner
37 C.J. Anderson (RB13) Browne
38 Dion Lewis (RB14) Wegman
39 Eddie Lacy (RB15) Ghatak
40 Michael Floyd (WR24) Wilkins
41 Emmanuel Sanders (WR25) Conrad
42 Jordan Reed (TE2) Bottero
43 Danny Woodhead (RB16) Boone
44 Greg Olsen (TE3) Sanderson
45 Thomas Rawls (RB17) Bisson
46 Latavius Murray (RB18) McClymont
47 Donte Moncrief (WR26) Wilson
48 Doug Baldwin (WR27) Holroyd

Round 4: After stealing Brandon Marshall one pick before me in the second round, Team Bottero throws a nail in my tire once again by selecting Reed, who is being undervalued in the fourth round. Rob Gronkowski outscored Reed overall last season, but he also played one more game. Reed actually had a higher fantasy points-per-game average in PPR leagues (17.4 to 17.0) ... With Reed gone, I went with the PPR assassin Woodhead as my RB1. He finished with the third-most points among running backs a year ago, and while a little regression should be expected, he's set up for a top-15 PPR season once again.

Round 5

Pick Player Owner
49 Cam Newton (QB1) Holroyd
50 Duke Johnson (RB19) Wilson
51 Eric Decker (WR28) McClymont
52 DeMarco Murray (RB20) Bisson
53 Ryan Mathews (RB21) Sanderson
54 Carlos Hyde (RB22) Boone
55 DeVante Parker (WR29) Bottero
56 Jordan Matthews (WR30) Conrad
57 Michael Crabtree (WR31) Wilkins
58 Jonathan Stewart (RB23) Ghatak
59 Larry Fitzgerald (WR32) Wegman
60 John Brown (WR33) Browne

Round 5: Everyone smartly decided to wait on QB, which turned Newton into a spectacular pick at the top of fifth round. Team Holroyd gets to roster the quarterback who helped her reach the finals of our office fantasy league last year ... Johnson is a sneaky PPR pick, since he'll see the bulk of passing-down work in Cleveland and has overall breakout potential.

Round 6

Pick Player Owner
61 Aaron Rodgers (QB2) Browne
62 Tyler Lockett (WR34) Wegman
63 Matt Jones (RB24) Ghatak
64 Travis Kelce (TE4) Wilkins
65 Gio Bernard (RB25) Conrad
66 Melvin Gordon (RB26) Bottero
67 DeAngelo Williams (RB27) Boone
68 Allen Hurns (WR35) Sanderson
69 Coby Fleener (TE5) Bisson
70 Jeremy Hill (RB28) McClymont
71 Andrew Luck (QB3) Wilson
72 Delanie Walker (TE6) Holroyd

Round 6: If Newton was a good value in the fifth round, Rodgers is a league-winning pick in sixth. Team Browne was able to get two strong backs and three strong receivers, before drafting a top-two quarterback ... I was happy to scoop up Williams as my third running back. His presence on my team basically guarantees me RB1 production for the first four weeks of the year ... This is also a great spot to grab Bernard, who should be one of the faces of the PPR movement.

Round 7

Pick Player Owner
73 DeSean Jackson (WR36) Holroyd
74 Jeremy Langford (RB29) Wilson
75 Gary Barnidge (TE7) McClymont
76 Torrey Smith (WR37) Bisson
77 Frank Gore (RB30) Sanderson
78 Ameer Abdullah (RB31) Boone
79 Kevin White (WR38) Bottero
80 Corey Coleman (WR39) Conrad
81 Russell Wilson (QB4) Wilkins
82 Arian Foster (RB32) Ghatak
83 Marvin Jones (WR40) Wegman
84 Theo Riddick (RB33) Browne

Round 7: If Foster continues to impress in practice and the preseason, he might be one of the best picks of this draft. He'll have to stay healthy, of course, something his competition, Jay Ajayi, has been unable to do early in camp ... Riddick finished with the same amount of receptions as Allen Robinson and Eric Decker last season. He might not reach 80 catches again, but he's a good bet to be one of the most targeted backs in the league for the second straight year.

Round 8

Pick Player Owner
85 Tyler Eifert (TE8) Browne
86 Sterling Shepard (WR41) Wegman
87 Markus Wheaton (WR42) Ghatak
88 T.J. Yeldon (RB34) Wilkins
89 Julius Thomas (TE9) Conrad
90 Josh Gordon (WR43) Bottero
91 Drew Brees (QB5) Boone
92 Justin Forsett (RB35) Sanderson
93 Ben Roethlisberger (QB6) Bisson
94 Carson Palmer (QB7) McClymont
95 Travis Benjamin (WR44) Wilson
96 Willie Snead (WR45) Holroyd

Round 8: Team Bottero continues to be the bane of my existence, drafting Gordon just ahead of me. The eighth round is a good spot to take the plunge on Gordon, since it allows you to take a chance on his upside with a minimal investment ... People seem to be down on Forsett, but it's possible he picks up where he left off and continues to work as the team's lead back. He's definitely worth spending an eighth-round pick on.

Round 9

Pick Player Owner
97 Charles Sims (RB36) Holroyd
98 Zach Ertz (TE10) Wilson
99 Laquon Treadwell (WR46)  McClymont
100 Kamar Aiken (WR47) Bisson
101 Eli Manning (QB8) Sanderson
102 Ladarius Green (TE11) Boone
103 Blake Bortles (QB9) Bottero
104 Tom Brady (QB10) Conrad
105 Anquan Boldin (WR48) Wilkins
106 Philip Rivers (QB11) Ghatak
107 Chris Ivory (RB37) Wegman
108 Tavon Austin (WR49) Browne

Round 9: Despite being a backup to Doug Martin, Sims ended the year 17th among fantasy running backs in PPR scoring. That efficiency will be tough to repeat, but even if he doesn't offer weekly value as a Flex option, Sims is a high-ceiling handcuff for Team Holroyd ... Steve Smith is 37 years old and returning from a major injury, Mike Wallace is on the downside of his career, and Breshad Perriman hasn't been able to get on the field due to his health. Aiken is shaping up to be the Ravens' top receiver in 2016.

Round 10

Pick Player Owner
109 Jay Ajayi (RB38) Browne
110 DeAndre Washington (RB39) Wegman
111 Antonio Gates (TE12) Ghatak
112 Tevin Coleman (RB40) Wilkins
113 Bilal Powell (RB41) Conrad
114 Rashad Jennings (RB42) Bottero
115 Vincent Jackson (WR50) Boone
116 Stefon Diggs (WR51) Sanderson
117 Isaiah Crowell (RB43) Bisson
118 Seattle Seahawks (DEF1) McClymont
119 Dorial Green-Beckham (WR52) Wilson
120 C.J. Prosise (RB44) Holroyd

Round 10: Washington and Powell are savvy PPR selections, since both are expected to be significant players in the passing game. They could also take on a bigger workload if the starters in front of them are plagued by injuries or ineffectiveness ... Jennings, who very well might be the Giants' lead back this season, is falling deep into drafts due to the fear of a committee approach in New York. Beat writers seem to be under the impression Jennings will get a chance to be the frontman this year, a role he excelled in over the final four games of 2015.

Round 11

Pick Player Owner
121 Phillip Dorsett (WR53) Holroyd
122 Denver Broncos (DEF2) Wilson
123 Javorius Allen (RB45) McClymont
124 Arizona Cardinals (DEF3) Bisson
125 Mohamed Sanu (WR54) Sanderson
126 Jerick McKinnon (RB46) Boone
127 Wendell Smallwood (RB47) Bottero
128 Carolina Panthers (DEF4) Conrad
129 Michael Thomas (WR55) Wilkins
130 Sammie Coates (WR56) Ghatak
131 Martellus Bennett (TE13) Wegman
132 Josh Doctson (WR57) Browne

Round 11: Dorsett, Thomas, and Coates are lottery-ticket receivers, who could pay off immediately. If Coates continues to ascend, he will likely start across from Antonio Brown in one of the most prolific passing attacks in the league. Dorsett and Thomas face a little more competition, but have clear paths to production ... In part because I like the player and in part as a small measure of payback for Team Bottero, I grabbed McKinnon in this round, preventing him from securing Peterson's handcuff. Petty moves like that are what fantasy is all about.

Round 12

Pick Player Owner
133 Stephen Gostkowski (K1) Browne
134 Tony Romo (QB12) Wegman
135 Houston Texans (DEF5) Ghatak
136 Devontae Booker (RB48) Wilkins
137 Derek Carr (QB13) Conrad
138 Steve Smith (WR58) Bottero
139 Dwayne Allen (TE14) Boone
140 Jason Witten (TE15) Sanderson
141 LeGarrette Blount (RB49) Bisson
142 Shane Vereen (RB50) McClymont
143 Chris Thompson (RB51) Wilson
144 Jordan Howard (RB52) Holroyd

Round 12: Team Wegman is rolling the dice that Romo will remain upright this season. The Cowboys are making a similar gamble ... Normally I wouldn't take a second tight end, but with Green's ankle casting a bit of doubt on his availability, I elected to draft Allen. Both players have a solid shot to be TE1s this season and hold top-five upside at the position.

Round 13

Pick Player Owner
145 Kansas City Chiefs (DEF6) Holroyd
146 Darren Sproles (RB53) Wilson
147 Terrance Williams (WR59) McClymont
148 Jimmy Graham (TE16) Bisson
149 Minnesota Vikings (DEF7) Sanderson
150 Los Angeles Rams (DEF8) Boone
151 Steven Hauschka (K2) Bottero
152 Zach Miller (TE17) Conrad
153 Cincinnati Bengals (DEF9) Wilkins
154 Eric Ebron (TE18) Ghatak
155 New England Patriots (DEF10) Wegman
156 Will Tye (TE19) Browne

Round 13: Sproles is a 33-year-old running back, but he will factor into the Eagles' backfield as a pass-catcher and is a quality pick this late in the draft ... Ebron is a nice option for Team Ghatak to pair with an aging Gates, while Tye has proven to be one of Eli Manning's favorite targets, making him a decent fill-in for Team Browne until Eifert is fully healthy.

Round 14

Pick Player Owner
157 New York Jets (DEF11) Browne
158 Mason Crosby (K3) Wegman
159 Graham Gano (K4) Ghatak
160 Chandler Catanzaro (K5) Wilkins
161 Dan Bailey (K6) Conrad
162 Green Bay Packers (DEF12) Bottero
163 Josh Brown (K7) Boone
164 Adam Vinatieri (K8) Sanderson
165 Blair Walsh (K9) Bisson
166 Matt Prater (K10) McClymont
167 Brandon McManus (K11) Wilson
168 Cairo Santos (K12) Holroyd
