Crystal Palace is ready to battle Stoke City for West Brom striker Saido Berahino, putting forth a £20-million bid (plus add-ons) for the restless 22-year-old, according to the Guardian's Alan Smith.

Staying true to its hardline stance, however, West Brom has already shot down both proposals for the player.

Stoke reportedly offered £17 million, with £3 million in add-ons, for Berahino, but Palace topped that with £20 million up-front.

Chairman Jeremy Peace is willing to play a risky game in an attempt to coax a higher fee. Berahino, after all, is entering the final year of his contract with the club, although the Baggies offered a fresh four-year deal earlier this month, according to The Telegraph's John Percy.

Berahino's form suffered last season after he tried to force a move to Tottenham. West Brom rejected Berahino's transfer request last summer, as well as several offers from the north London side. The West Midlands club also accused Tottenham of unsettling Berahino, who had completely lost his focus ahead of the 2015-16 Premier League campaign.

The former England under-21 international scored just four league goals that season - a significant drop-off from his previous 14-goal haul - but that hasn't stopped the bids from coming in.

The main issue for West Brom, however, is the question of a replacement. Peace would prefer to lock up another striker - thought to be West Ham's Diafra Sakho - before parting ways with Berahino.
