Washington lands 5-star forward Michael Porter Jr.
Washington secured a commitment Friday from five-star forward Michael Porter Jr., the fourth-ranked player on the ESPN 300.
It's a huge get for the Huskies, although not all that surprising. Porter's father is an assistant coach at Washington, and head coach Lorenzo Romar is his godfather, so it was essentially a foregone conclusion he'd be joining the program.
"My dad told me it was the best place for me to get to the next level," Porter Jr. told ESPN's Jeff Goodman. "I made it clear I wanted to be one-and-done if possible and he told me it was an ideal spot to do that. I trust my dad and I trust Coach Romar."
The Seattle native is ranked first at his position in the state, and will provide the Huskies with a little bit of everything, thanks to his 3-point shooting and ability to attack the basket.
Porter also had offers from Indiana, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Virginia.
