UFC notified of potential Brock Lesnar doping violation

Mark J. Rebilas / US PRESSWIRE

The UFC was contacted about a potential doping violation by Brock Lesnar for a sample collected June 28 by USADA, the promotion announced Friday.

"USADA, the independent administrator of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, will handle the results management and appropriate adjudication of this case," the UFC said in a statement. "It is important to note that, under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, there is a full fair legal review process that is afforded to all athletes before any sanctions are imposed."

Lesnar, a former UFC heavyweight champion and current WWE superstar, returned to the Octagon this month, defeating Mark Hunt at UFC 200.

"The Nevada State Athletic Commission also retains jurisdiction over this matter, as the sample collection was performed in close proximity to Lesnar's bout at UFC 200 in Las Vegas," the statement continued.

USADA spokesperson Ryan Madden said Thursday that Lesnar would continue to undergo the same testing as every fighter in the UFC until he officially announced his retirement.

The 39-year-old had this to say on a conference call Thursday when asked about performance-enhancing drugs prior to his fight with Hunt:

"I've been dealing with that my entire life. I'm a white boy and I'm jacked. Deal with it. What do you want me to say? I'm a white boy and I'm jacked, deal with it."

If Lesnar did indeed commit a violation, it would be the second banned-substance incident to mar the historic UFC 200 event. Jon Jones was pulled from his bout with Daniel Cormier after failing a drug test, and is facing a two-year suspension.

Lesnar is scheduled to compete for WWE at SummerSlam on Aug. 21, and it remains to be seen if this news will impact his highly anticipated match with Randy Orton.
