Napoli not involved in pursuit of Sunderland's Giaccherini, says agent

Emanuele Giaccherini's agent says there's been no contact from Napoli over a £2-million move for his client, but that talks are underway with numerous clubs looking to take him from Sunderland.

Many on Wearside were in a state of shock for a large portion of June, as the wee winger put in some sterling performances for Italy at Euro 2016. The showings belied a player that has become accustomed to appearances for Sunderland's reserves in recent years.

The Azzurri's run into the quarter-finals has done enough to turn heads, but not in Campania.

"There has been absolutely nothing, and I am not the type who hides things, I am not into pretending," Giaccherini's representative Furio Valcareggi is quoted in the Sunderland Echo. "I don't know from where this bit of news was pulled from.

"If Napoli had wanted (him), someone from the club would have called me, but there has been nothing, no contact.

"Meanwhile, I am carrying out talks with other clubs for Giaccherini."

The 31-year-old spent last year on loan at Bologna, scoring a respectable seven goals in 27 Serie A starts, and hasn't played in England since appearing as a substitute for the Black Cats in a 3-1 loss to Chelsea in May 2015.
