Not only did Cristiano Ronaldo show off some coaching skills during extra time of Portugal's surprise Euro 2016 final defeat of France, it turns out the Real Madrid great is also clairvoyant.

A teary-eyed Ronaldo was withdrawn in the first stanza with a knee injury, a fate which looked disastrous for the Selecao's chances of winning the tournament. He appeared before the additional 30 minutes, though, to see Swansea City flop Eder bang in a stunning winner - just as he'd predicted.

"Cristiano told me I would score the winning goal - he and all my team-mates," said Eder. "He gave me strength and positive energy. A lot of hard work went into it."

Considering his struggles when plying his trade away from Portugal, Eder's exploits have shocked a continent. The striker was shipped out on loan to Ligue 1's Lille from Swansea during the winter transfer window following a sorry beginning to life in South Wales. Now, he's etched his name into Portuguese folklore.

"We worked hard from the first minute and right from the beginning of the tournament. We were spectacular," the 29-year-old continued.

"We fought with immense strength, we were amazing. I think we deserve this title due to the work we put in, all the players and the staff. Portugal had been wanting this title for so long. This is fantastic and well deserved. Congratulations to every single one of us."

Portugal has overcome 20-1 odds to pick up major honours in France, and has the unique claim to have conquered Europe despite winning just one match in normal time.

Eder, take a bow.
