Report: Crystal Palace agrees to €38M fee for Batshuayi
Crystal Palace has had a club transfer record €38-million approach accepted by Marseille for striker Michy Batshuayi, according to the Guardian's Ed Aarons.
The fee would obliterate the previous high paid for Yohan Cabaye last summer - £10 million (€12 million). The Eagles are confident they've vaulted ahead of Juventus and West Ham United in their pursuit of the Belgium international after personally submitting the bid to Marseille president Vincent Labrune.
The offer tabled is believed to include a significant bonus payment and sell-on clause, although 35 percent of the amount paid will be due to Standard Liege, the 22-year-old's former club.
It could be a busy transfer window for Palace, with moves entering fruition for Batshuayi's teammate Steve Mandanda, who has 22 caps in goal for France, and Andros Townsend after exercising his £10.5-million release clause at Newcastle United.
If the approach for Mandanda falls through, Chelsea's second-choice shot-stopper Asmir Begovic is being sighted as a replacement for the often hapless Wayne Hennessey.
Batshuayi is currently with his homeland on its Euro 2016 campaign, and was introduced for his first appearance of the tournament Sunday. He scored the second in a 4-0 demolition of Hungary to reach the last eight.
