After an utter slog that lasted for 117 dour, uneventful minutes, Croatia and Portugal actually decided to play football. It didn't end well for the former. After a header struck the post at one end, the Portuguese raced down the pitch on the first meaningful counter of the contest, and the move ended with Ricardo Quaresma tapping a header into a yawning goal after a rebound.
Portugal advances to the quarter-final, and Croatia goes home.
