Another day, another record on the horizon for the insatiable Cristiano Ronaldo.

Having already become the first player in European Championship history to score in four editions of the competition when he found the net twice against Hungary in the group stage, the polarising Portuguese's assault on the record books continued against Wales on Wednesday.

By virtue of his thumping 50th-minute header that flew past Wayne Hennessey in the semi-final clash, the 31-year-old moved level with French icon Michel Platini as the highest scorer in tournament history - the two men now tied on nine goals.

Platini, remarkably, recorded all nine of his markers in a single competition, running away with the Golden Boot at Euro '84.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, rippled the mesh for the first time at Euro 2004, and has scored at least once in every European Championship he's ever been a part of.

W'ednesday's match-winner came in his 20th tournament contest, and he'll now have a chance to capture the record outright on the ideal stage: the tournament final.
