Lakers' Russell pokes fun at Young video fiasco in Foot Locker ad
Los Angeles Lakers guard D'Angelo Russell's advice for projected No. 1 overall pick Ben Simmons is simple: Get rid of your cell phone as soon as possible.
In the latest ad by Foot Locker, Simmons - who recently inked a deal with the Nike brand - asks Russell, Rookie of the Year Karl-Anthony Towns, and Devin Booker for any words of wisdom they may have as he begins his NBA career. Russell grabs Simmons' phone and flings it into the water, a reference to a leaked-video debacle involving teammate Nick Young.
Late in the 2015-16 season, a video of Russell recording Swaggy P discussing his involvement with other women while engaged to his now ex-fiancee, rapper Iggy Azalea, was leaked to the public. This caused a great deal of strife in the Lakers' locker room, and reportedly led several players to shun the first-year pro behind closed doors.
The commercial will air during the NBA draft on Thursday night.
