Bale doesn't take free-kick tips from Ronaldo: 'I do it my way'

Gareth Bale doesn't need any help with his free-kick technique, thank you very much.

The Wales superstar, who's illuminated Euro 2016 with a pair of sumptuous tallies from dead-ball situations against Slovakia and England, will go in search of a new European Championship record in Monday's contest against Russia.

If the Real Madrid winger can score a third free-kick, he'll surpass French icons Michel Platini and Zinedine Zidane, as well as Germany's Thomas Hassler, who each scored two in their careers at the Euros.

Bale's technique changed markedly after his move to the Spanish capital, but he credits the work he puts in on the training pitch for his success, adding that he doesn't take any tips from Cristiano Ronaldo.

"I put a lot of practice in," Bale was quoted as saying by PA Sport.

"Even now after training I'm there for an extra 10 or 15 minutes hitting balls, and doing what I normally do when I'm at Madrid and when I was at Tottenham.

"Nothing changes - I just carry on my routine.''

As for the striking resemblance between his run-up routine and that of Ronaldo, Bale dismissed the suggestion that he and the photogenic Portuguese exchange pointers.

"No, not really. I do it my way. I like my own style," he noted. "We obviously practice together in training but on different sides.

"It depends where I am on the pitch and what side. I hit it slightly different depending where the ball is and how close you are.

"You always stand over them and think, 'Please just go in,' but it's not always the case. So it's nice to see the hard work pay off and see two go in so far."
