Sunday's Shortstop Value Rankings
Here are theScore's shortstop value rankings for Sunday, June 19 (all stats exclude Saturday's games):
Value Rankings
C | 1B/DH | 2B | SS | 3B | OF | SP
Top Options
Name | Opponent | Value |
---|---|---|
Corey Seager (LAD) | vs. MIL | 8 |
Didi Gregorius (NYY) | at MIN | 8 |
Carlos Correa (HOU) | vs. CIN | 7 |
Jonathan Villar (MIL) | at LAD | 7 |
Seager has cooled off somewhat, but still has 15 home runs, with 11 of them coming at Dodger Stadium. Available at a slight discount against blowup-prone Matt Garza, a big night could be in the cards for the rookie.
Gregorius has three multi-hit and three multi-RBI games in his last four. Ervin Santana certainly shouldn't stand in the way of a Yankees offense that's scored 19 runs against the Twins and is looking for the four-game sweep.
Villar is always a solid option regardless of matchup, thanks to his .300 average and speed on the basepaths (a league-leading 25 steals).
Mid-Tier Targets

Name | Opponent | Value |
---|---|---|
Eduardo Escobar (MIN) | vs. NYY | 7 |
Brandon Crawford (SF) | at TB | 7 |
Xander Bogaerts (BOS) | vs. SEA | 7 |
Brad Miller (TB) | vs. SF | 7 |
Tim Anderson (CWS) | at CLE | 7 |
Trevor Story (COL) | at MIA | 7 |
Francisco Lindor (CLE) | vs. CWS | 6 |
Troy Tulowitzki (TOR) | at BAL | 6 |
Asdrubal Cabrera (NYM) | vs. ATL | 6 |
Ketel Marte (SEA) | at BOS | 6 |
Addison Russell (CHC) | vs. PIT | 6 |
Eduardo Nunez (MIN) | vs. NYY | 6 |
Zack Cozart (CIN) | at HOU | 6 |
Marcus Semien (OAK) | vs. LAA | 6 |
Jose Iglesias (DET) | at KC | 6 |
Danny Espinosa (WAS) | at SD | 6 |
Elvis Andrus (TEX) | at STL | 6 |
Aledmys Diaz (STL) | vs. TEX | 5 |
Alexei Ramirez (SD) | vs. WAS | 5 |
Alcides Escobar (KC) | vs. DET | 5 |
Andrelton Simmons (LAA) | at OAK | 5 |
Escobar comes much cheaper than fellow infielder Nunez, and has homered in consecutive games (including Saturday afternoon's) as he finds his form following a DL stint. He doesn't offer the same threat along the basepaths as Nunez, but he's been hitting for both average and power of late.
Just activated from a stint on the DL, Tulowitzki was in the lineup on Saturday and figures to be there again on Sunday. While his price has likely never been lower, he may need some time to regain his form and wasn't in the midst of a productive season anyway (.204 average, eight home runs).
Nothing to See Here

Name | Opponent | Value |
---|---|---|
Adeiny Hechavarria (MIA) | vs. COL | 3 |
J.J. Hardy (BAL) | vs. TOR | 3 |
Freddy Galvis (PHI) | vs. ARI | 3 |
Jordy Mercer (PIT) | at CHC | 3 |
Erick Aybar (ATL) | at NYM | 2 |
Hechavarria is somehow one of the priciest options at the position, with a matchup against Rockies rookie LHP Tyler Anderson the likely reason why. Anderson has been great in Triple-A (2.12 ERA) and in his first MLB start last week (one earned run allowed in 6 1/3 innings, with six strikeouts). What's more, the game is at spacious Marlins Park, so the Coors Field bump can't be blamed.
Hardy is back from the DL and will certainly have the position to himself with Manny Machado suspended for four games starting Sunday. Still, he's best left alone unless at an extreme bargain price.
