Croatia captain Darijo Srna has left the squad's Euro 2016 base after the death of his father, the Croatian football federation (HNS) announced.

Srna learned of the death of his father, Uzeir, after Sunday's 1-0 victory over Turkey and has travelled back to his hometown of Metkovic to attend Monday's funeral proceedings.

In a statement, the HNS said it "extends its deepest and most sincere condolences to our captain and his family." No timetable was provided for the potential return of the influential right-back.

An Instagram post from the federation offered further support to Srna, with the squad posing for a photo that included the caption: "Dear Captain, we are with you and your family."

Dragi kapetane, svi smo uz tebe i tvoju obitelj.
